Didn't you mean to say "loosely based"? Though the two languages are definitely related, the one spoken here in the "colonies" bears very little resemblance to the "Queen's English".

lets just all give praise that music is universal, and that we can at least understand each other! Language has to evolve or we'd all be talking like chaucer.
